Miramont Castle Museum / Manitou Springs Historical Society presents “250 Years of U.S. History in Postage Stamps,” a unique exhibition exploring the people, events, conflicts, achievements, and cultural milestones that have shaped the United States.
Featuring hundreds of U.S. postage stamps, the exhibition tells the story of America through the images the nation has chosen to commemorate. Beginning with the Indigenous peoples of the Americas and continuing through European exploration, the American Revolution, the founding of the United States, westward expansion, the Civil War, emancipation, industrial growth, conservation, women’s suffrage, and America’s emergence as a world power, the exhibition traces the country’s development across more than two centuries.
Visitors will also explore defining events of the 20th and 21st centuries, including the Great Depression, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, the Space Race, the Vietnam War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Persian Gulf War, and the September 11, 2001 attacks, along with important developments in American music, culture, technology, and society.
“250 Years of U.S. History in Postage Stamps” invites visitors to experience familiar moments in American history from a different perspective and consider how the United States has represented its own story on some of the nation’s smallest canvases.
From Indigenous cultures and the American Revolution to the Civil War, women’s suffrage, the World Wars, Civil Rights, the Space Race, Vietnam, and major events of the modern era, discover the people, conflicts, achievements, and cultural milestones that helped shape the nation.
